The good governance team has carried out assessment of some of the projects executed by the incumbent Local Government Chairmen with less than three months to the expiration of their tenure.

Determined to ensure that the living standard of people in the rural areas gets a boost, the good governance team has carried out an on the spot assessment of some of the projects executed by the incumbent Local Government Chairmen with less than three months to the expiration of their tenure. The good governance team which is a tripartite coalition of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, civil society organizations, CSO’s and Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC is aimed at reviewing and ascertaining the level of performances of the local government Chairmen, in a bid to create a score card in the state.

Speaking in their separate remarks on Thursday, while playing hosts to the team, the chairman Agwu Local Government Area, Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo and his counterpart Udi local government chairman, Ifeanyi Agu noted that the importance of the visit cannot be over emphasized and commended the group for assisting to ensure that those voted into office live up to their various expectations. Ifeanyi Agu, while outlining some of the projects executed since inception of office noted that the outbreak of Covid-19, #endsars protest, banditry posed major challenge to their administration.

Meanwhile the Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress, Enugu State, Comrade Virgnus Nwobodo used the medium to appeal to the council chairmen to have a rethink towards implementing the minimum wage for their respective workers. Further contributing, the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists Enugu State, Comrade Rex Arum stressed the need for all hands to be on deck in the fight against poverty. However, the good governance team also visited Oji-River local government area and with that a total of eleven council areas have been visited by the good governance team.
