TRADE UNION CONGRESS IN CROSS RIVER STATE SAY, NO CIVIL SERVANT HAVE BEEN PROMOTED IN THE LAST SEVEN YEARS.

The Trade Union Congress, TUC, in Cross River state has disclosed that no civil servant in the state got promotion in the last seven years. This comes as the TUC Chairman, Monday Ogbodum addressed newsmen on the welfare of workers under Ben Ayade’s eight years administration. Ogbodum said apart from regular payment of salaries and pensions, workers had the worst welfare under the current government.

According to him, the last time retirees were paid gratuity was in 2014, while promotion for workers since 2016 has not been 100 percent implemented. On payment of gratuities, he said a committee put in place by the government became moribund after the initial release of 200 naira million in January to April 2022, stating that, while the funds did not accommodate all retirees in the month of March 2014, no additional funds have been released.

Narrating that, annual incremental rate used to be a thing of joy, but government had defaulted on this despite the MoU entered into. Ogbodum, the State Chairman of the Senior Civil Servants Association of Nigeria, advised the incoming administration of Bassey Otu to prioritise workers welfare.
