SPORADIC GUNFIRE IN KHARTOUM DESPITE NEW TRUCE

As a ceasefire came into force after 10 days of urban combat, France has evacuated 538 people from Sudan, President Emmanuel Macron said today. According to the president at the start of a defense council at the Elysee palace, its citizens were made up 209 of the total number of evacuees.

Moreover, Macron said injuries sustained by a French soldier during the evacuation were no longer life-threatening. Also in a new development, Fighting have continue in Khartoum despite the 72-hour ceasefire. Heavy artillery and gunfire has been reported in the capital on Tuesday despite a 72-hour truce announced by the Sudan Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces, RSF.

News correspondents reporting from Khartoum said while the ceasefire was holding in some parts of the capital, fighting continues in some of the more contested areas. The report say in the northern part of the capital it could be witnessed that, plumes of smoke were rising along the northern banks of the Nile.
