NIGERIA REPORTS DOZENS OF COVID-19 CASES, WITH NO NEW DEATH.

A total of four hundred and eighteen new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Sunday amid concerns over the new variant of the virus, omicron, in the country, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has said. Giving an update on the outbreak of the disease in a Facebook post on Monday, the agency noted that the new infections were recorded in twelve states of the federation. The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, recorded no new case. Similarly, no infected person was reported dead on Sunday.

Of the fresh infections, Lagos had three hundred and fourteen, Ogun confirmed twenty-seven, Plateau reported eighteen, Edo recorded seventeen, Enugu- eleven, Abia had eight among others. This brings the total number of cases confirmed since the outbreak of the disease in Nigeria to about two hundred and seventeen thousand confirmed from the samples collected and tested by the NCDC since the outbreak of the disease in February 2020. Of the confirmed cases, the nation’s death toll from the disease stands at two thousand nine hundred and eighty-one while the number of those who have been successfully treated and discharged rose to two hundred and seven thousand.
