MINISTER OF LABOUR CHRIS NGIGE APPEALS TO ASUU TO CALL-OFF ITS INDEFINITE STRIKE

The Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, believes the suspension of the strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is dependent on the union. Ngige, who made the comment when he interacted with journalists on Thursday, called on the university lecturers to be considerate. The former Anambra state governor, who reiterated that he cannot make a commitment on when the impasse will be resolved, urged the union to do their part.

According to him, ASUU should stop threatening government officials and agencies. He said he is worried by the incessant strikes in public universities in Nigeria, adding that there will be a meeting of all stakeholders next week as part of moves to resolve the lingering strike. Before Ngige’s latest remarks, ASUU had accused the Federal Government of un-seriousness in meeting their demands.
