FIRE OUTBREAK DESTROYS GOODS WORTH MILLIONS OF NAIRA AT THE POPULAR FISH MARKET IN DELTA STATE

A fire outbreak has destroyed goods worth millions of naira at the popular Ogbe-Ijoh Market in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State. The Ogbe-Ijoh market is well known to be one of the biggest fish markets across the country. Residents and shop owners in the market were seen running helter-skelter to rescue what is left of their respective goods.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Micheal Tidi, said the fire which started on Sunday afternoon, was caused by a mentally-challenged woman who was clearing refuse at the market premises. According to Tidi, the fire spread beyond the dry refuse and then onto other shops in the market, before men of Delta State Fire Service stopped the fire from spreading to other sections of the market.
