EDEANIEGU COMMUNITY IN ISHI-OZALLA DISASSOCIATES SELF FROM PURPORTED TOWN UNION ELECTION

The Edeaniegu Community in Ishi-Ozalla, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State have disassociated itself from the purported planned Town Union election. It also called on the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs, Rural Development and Local Government to proffer solution to lingering crisis in the area before any election. In a statement by the President-General of Edeanigu Community, Uchenna Nweke and the Secretary, Christian Uzochukwu, they expresses surprise over the planned election, which they said is the handiwork of mischief makers. They regretted that the issues raised by the Edeanigu people such as; total cancellation of ostracization of the people, inclusion of their members in the constitution reviewing committee, equal opportunity to the Igweship stool of Ishi-Ozalla, among others, have not been addressed.

According to the statement, those behind the planned election were the same people, who imposed a traditional ruler on the community, who was later suspended when the former Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. They appealed to the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Okey Ogbodo to continue with the process of ensuring sustainable peace rather than actions capable of causing more crisis in the community, such as the said election. The statement urges all sons and daughters of Edeaniegu to disregard and boycott the purported election.
