APCON, will be introducing a new vetting regime from April 1, 2022 for industry operators

The Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, APCON, has said it will introduce a new vetting regime from April 1, 2022 for industry operators, in order to reduce unlawful and unethical practices. APCON Registrar, Olalekan Fadolapo, who stated that at the induction of 63 fellows into the council in Lagos, said only licensed advertising organisations will be permitted to apply to the Advertising Standards Panel for vetting. Fadolapo noted that as a way of encouraging the fellows of the profession, the council will improve the welfare of her members by adopting insurance policy to cover her members in specific areas.

The APCON boss revealed that the Council will begin with the fellowship category and progress to cover other categories of membership, adding they will develop a stronger capacity building programme to help stimulate interesting feedback to build a stronger advertising industry. He blamed most the challenges facing the regulatory agency to inadequate legislative backup, which he hopes to address soon.
