The Nigerian Red Cross Society and the Nigeria Police Force have agreed to tackle violence against health workers and facilities to ensure safe health care delivery.

The agreement was reached during a courtesy visit to the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawal by Red Cross Society.

Speaking during the visit, the Enugu State Branch Secretary of Red Cross, Tony Udegbu, said the collaborative effort will lead to joint operations that would alleviated human suffering in the State.

A statement by the spokesman of the organisation, Festus Agbo, quoted the Secretary as saying that the spate of violence against health workers and facilities pose a huge challenge to effective delivery of safe healthcare.

He revealed that the Red Cross is leading a campaign to sensitize the public about Health Care in Danger, and pointed out that the Police has a crucial role to play towards the actualisation of the goal.

Responding, the State Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawal, described the Red Cross as critical partners in the emergency line, stressing that interactions is vital in making the partnership work better.

Lawal pledged to enlighten the public and other stakeholders on the compulsory treatment of gunshot victims and assured the Society of the Command’s support towards achieving the objectives of the Health Care in Danger.
