ENUGU STATE BEGINS MASS POLIO VACCINATION EXERCISE

Determined to ensure Nigeria continues to record no case of polio, Enugu State government has called on parents, guardians and care givers to use the opportunity of the ongoing polio vaccine exercise and immunize their children and wards.
The executive secretary Enugu State primary health care development agency ENS-PHCDA, George Ugwu made this known on Wednesday during a press briefing and sensitization meeting of stakeholders and partners on the forthcoming mass polio immunization held in the agency’s office.
George Ugwu who noted that they are targeting children between the ages of zero to five years explained that they have properly trained no fewer than two thousand team members for the exercise and that the team members will be visiting homes, mosques, schools, Markets, churches among others for the exercise.
To this end, the executive secretary Enugu State primary health care development agency, George Ugwu reiterated the need for all hands to be on deck and ensure the prevention line is towed which he stated is better than cure.
Further contributing, the director community health services, Fabian Nebo noted that the importance of the immunization against polio cannot be over emphasized.
On whether the vaccine has any overdose effect, Fabian Nebo has this to say.
Meanwhile, in their separate remarks, religious leaders at the event such as venerable Jonathan Agbo, Secretary Christian Association of Nigeria South East Zone, and his counterparts representing the Chief Imam, Enugu State central mosque also the Hausa and Yoruba Muslim community, Alhaji Abdulrazeez Adebayo among others pledged their determination to ensure the information is properly disseminated in order to ensure the vaccine gets to the target population.
The event however had stakeholders from various ministries, departments and parastatals in attendance.
