President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the attack on Donald Trump, the United States Republican Presidential candidate, during his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, resulted in one fatality and left another person seriously injured.

Naija News reported that Trump, the Former President, was hurriedly escorted off the stage by Secret Service agents following what sounded like gunshots. Trump sustained a minor injury, with a bullet piercing the upper part of his right ear.

In a statement released on Sunday, Trump provided details about his injury and expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their swift response to the shooting. He also extended his condolences to the families of the victims.

President Tinubu, through a statement on his X handle, described the assassination attempt as distasteful and a violation of democratic norms. He emphasized that violence has no place in democracy.

“The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy,” Tinubu wrote. “I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery. Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and highlighted the risks faced by public figures in the political arena.
