LABOUR UNION IN FEDERAL NEUROPSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL ENUGU APPEAL TO MINISTER OF HEALTH TO STOP UNREST ROCKING THE HOSPITAL

The Labour Unions in the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu have appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Health, Ali Pate, to immediately wade in and stop the unrest in the hospital. They also disassociated themselves from the August 30 2023 protest over
alleged mismanagement of the institution by the medical director, Monday Igwe. The Unions comprising of the Joint Health Sector Union; the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives; the Association of Resident Doctors; and the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria stated this on Tuesday at a press conference in Enugu. Addressing the journalists, the chairman of the Medical and Dental Consultants in the hospital, Jane Nnabuchi, reiterated that they were not part of the protest, which she noted was masterminded by hired thugs. Nnabuchi hinted that the protest was carried out with the intention to discredit and mislead the public into believing that there is crises in the institution. She however maintained that there is no crises in the hospital, as the workers are happy and satisfied with the Igwe’s administration.

Also, the chairman of the resident doctors, Ferguson Mbachu, condemned the foiled attempt to kidnap the medical director under the guise of arrest by men who claimed to be policemen. Mbachu said the situation disrupted the activities of the hospital community and would have escalated, if not for the timely intervention of the Enugu State Police Command.  The Unions then accused a staff of the school of Post Basic Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing of fueling all the negative activities in the hospital since 2015.
