Enugu State Zonal Commander of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Aliyu Nuhu, has called for more synergy between the media and its agency to effectively fight corruption in the state. Nuhu stated this during a meeting with members of the Private Broadcast Chapel, PBC, of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Enugu State Council, at the commission’s office in Enugu. The Zonal Commander described the media as a critical stakeholder in the fight against corrupt practices, especially in creating awareness about the dangers of fraudulent schemes and financial crimes.
The EFCC boss expressed worry over the increasing rate of cyber related crimes, noting that the commission has prosecuted and convicted over 500 young persons in the last quarter of 2022 and about 120 this year. He further highlighted the need to strengthen investigative journalism in the State to expose corrupt practices and financial crimes in public service. Earlier in his remark, the PBC Chairman, Richard Asiegbu, noted that the partnership with the commission will complement its efforts in ensuring a better society. Asiegbu also commended the commission for its fight against corruption and for sanitizing the state of criminal minded individuals, describing the partnership as a work in progress.
