In Imo state, Governor Hope Uzodimma has pledged to support the National Electoral Commission, INEC, to overcome its challenges. The Governor gave the assurance when he received the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Imo State, Professor Francis Ezeonu and his team on a courtesy call at the Government House, Owerri.
Uzodimma lauded the wisdom of INEC in creating new and additional polling units across the country ahead of the 2023 general election, noting that the transformation of voting points to polling units was a great idea. The Governor reiterated the willingness of his government to support INEC ahead of the 2023 general election.
On his part, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Francis Ezeonu told the Governor that, Imo State is trailing behind other States in the South East, in respect of the number of registered voters. He however blamed the low turnout on insecurity and called on those who want to register to do so, either through the INEC registration centres in Local Government Areas or through INEC’s voters’ enrolment device.
