The Federal Government has approved a salary increase ranging from 25% to 35% for civil servants under various consolidated salary structures. Emmanuel Njoku, Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that these adjustments will be effective from January 1, 2024.
The government has also approved a pension increase of 20% to 28% for pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme, applicable to the same six consolidated salary structures, also effective from January 1, 2024.
The salary boost pertains to the following consolidated salary structures: the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).
It should be noted that employees in the Tertiary Education and Health sectors had previously received salary increases. For the Tertiary Education sector, this included the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS) for universities, Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), and Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS). The Health sector benefitted through the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and the Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).
