In a scathing statement on X, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its handling of the ongoing violence in Nigeria’s northern regions. Abubakar condemned the brutal Boko Haram attacks in Yobe and other states, attributing the government’s failure to address the insurgency to the current administration’s inadequacies.

Abubakar’s remarks came amid a significant public outcry over the arrest and treason charges against ten protesters who were demonstrating against poverty and corruption. The charges, which could lead to the death penalty, have drawn condemnation from human rights groups like Amnesty International. They accuse Tinubu’s government of using the justice system to suppress dissent and silence critical voices.

Amnesty International denounced the charges as an abuse of power, labeling them as desperate and tyrannical measures aimed at stifling opposition. The protesters, including Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye, Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi, and others, face serious legal repercussions under accusations of conspiring to destabilize the country.

This situation highlights the escalating tensions in Nigeria, with growing concern over the government’s response to both internal dissent and external threats from militant groups.
