The Enugu State Police Command says it has arrested 120 suspects for criminal offenses and rescued 14 kidnap victims in the state between August and December, 2021. Addressing journalists at the Police Headquarters in Enugu on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawal, said some of the suspects have either been sentenced or remanded in correctional facility, others have already been charged to court.
While enumerating various crimes of the arrest suspects, the Commissioner of Police added that a total of 34 firearms, 50 ammunition and 41 vehicles were recovered. Speaking on a particular case of kidnaping, Lawal said that one Benjamin Aniobi from Akpugo in Nkanu West local government area was arrested for kidnapping an 86-year-old woman.
He however said the men of the Anti-Kidnaping Unit in the area acting on an intelligence report rescued the woman unharmed in a forest at Ajame-Ndiuno, Uwani-Akpugo. The commissioner thanked the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for supporting the efforts of the command in combatting crime and also other security agencies for their cooperation.
