‎The Southeast will host its maiden Para Powerlifting Championship from
October 23 to 24 at the indoor sports hall of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium,
Enugu.

‎The event, organized and sponsored by Chiemeka Charles Ezenwanne,
President of the Nigerian Para Powerlifting Federation (NPPF), aims to
discover and develop new talents across the region.

‎Ezenwanne said the initiative is his personal effort to revive the sport in
the Southeast and empower young para-athletes. “We have raw talents
waiting to be discovered. This competition will help bring them into the
national team,” he stated.

‎He lamented the decline of the sport in the region, noting that states like
Anambra and Ebonyi currently have no active lifters, and called on
governments and private organizations to invest in para sports.

‎Highlighting Nigeria’s global success in para powerlifting, he recalled
that the country won two gold and two silver medals at the last Olympics,
and 16 medals at the recent championship in Egypt.

‎Themed Discover, Develop, and Adjust, the two-day event will attract
governors, sports commissioners, and other stakeholders from the
Southeast.
