South East Governors appeals on federal Government for help over worsening insecurity in the zone.

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the South East Governors Forum, SEGF, have decried security situation in the region, thereby calling on the federal government to come to their aid.Presenting a communique at the end of an emergency meeting held at the Enugu State Government House on Sunday, the chairman South East Governors Forum, SEGF also Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi lamented over the hike in kidnapping and incessant killing ravaging the zone which he noted has brought economic activities to a halt.To this end, the governors agreed for a joint security patrol in all major highways in the South East with effect from December 1st, in a bid to ensure insecurity is curbed.The South East governors also used the medium to debunk news that the Eastern Security Network, ESN was formed by the forum while adding that they only formed Ebubeagu and forest guards.On the issue of flooding in some parts of the country, the forum commended the states and federal government on their efforts to alleviate the sufferings of those affected and stressed the need for long term plans to be reached in order to avert recurrence.Meanwhile to further assist victims of flooding in the region, the forum has approved funds to be given to the victims as a way of showing sympathy and synergy.The governors also appealed to the federal government to initiate actions in dredging of rivers in the zone to ameliorate the destruction of houses, farmlands and properties.However, our correspondent Sandra Ukeje reports that the five South East Governors were in attendance for the meeting except for the governors of Imo and Anambra States who were represented by their deputy governors.
