President Bola Tinubu has officially received the report detailing the recommendations from the committee focused on livestock reform implementation in Nigeria. The presentation took place on Thursday at the State House in Abuja, led by the committee’s chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, who previously served as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Following the meeting, Jega informed the media that the committee has submitted a comprehensive 152-page document aimed at addressing the ongoing conflicts between farmers and herders across the nation. He emphasized the committee’s view that both ranching and open grazing should coexist in the short term, allowing for a gradual transition toward full ranching once sufficient awareness and infrastructure are established.

The report also advocates for the incorporation of modern technologies in livestock production to enhance efficiency and sustainability. It is anticipated that the findings and recommendations will be publicly released soon to invite further input from stakeholders and the general public.

This initiative follows President Tinubu’s establishment of the Presidential Committee on Implementation of Livestock Reforms in July, reflecting his administration’s commitment to resolving long-standing agricultural and pastoral challenges in Nigeria
