Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has shed light on why the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) servers malfunctioned during the transmission of results. Speaking in Canada over the weekend, Obi attributed the issue to what he termed an “establishment of criminality” that hindered the servers’ effectiveness.
Addressing the election’s challenges, the former Anambra State governor noted several transmission glitches but highlighted that Amazon reported no global glitches on the election day. He emphasized the need for continued engagement with stakeholders to ensure the system functions properly.
Obi remarked, “We did everything right during the election. The real challenge lies in overcoming those entrenched in the old order. They resist change vigorously, forming alliances to maintain their hold. Achieving change is never straightforward; it’s a prolonged effort. Historical examples from India, South Africa, and the United States show that meaningful change takes time.”
He urged supporters to remain steadfast, stating, “If you desire change, we are merely at the beginning. We must persist from where we left off. While we need to correct a few things, we are already addressing them discreetly. It won’t be easy, but we must persevere.”
Regarding the INEC server issue, Obi explained, “The server’s failure was orchestrated by the establishment. It was intentional. Despite claims of a glitch, Amazon confirmed there were no global glitches that day. Their records show no reported issues. The real problem was the systemic criminality within the establishment. Our task is to ensure the system eventually works as intended.”
