The Nigeria Police Force has issued a wanted notice for Andrew Wynne, a British national also known as Andrew Povich, and Nigerian Lucky Obiyan, in connection with an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The police have accused Wynne of establishing a network of sleeper cells aimed at toppling the government. According to Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi, Wynne purportedly rented a space at Labour House in Abuja, setting up a school as a cover for his activities.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has filed a six-count treason charge against Wynne and other organizers of recent #EndBadGovernance protests at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The charges allege that the conspirators planned to commit treason and other crimes between July 1 and August 4.
Adejobi stated that the police have launched a comprehensive investigation into these alleged subversive activities, revealing that nine suspects have been detained. These individuals reportedly received substantial financial support from foreign sources to destabilize Nigeria through unconstitutional means and incite violence.
The police’s actions come as part of a broader effort to address what they describe as attempts to undermine Nigeria’s democratically elected government.
