The Nigeria Football Federation on Sunday terminated the contract of Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, and appointed Augustine Eguavoen, to take charge as the team’s Technical Adviser on an interim basis. NFF said in a statement signed by its spokesman Ademola Olajire said the Franco-German coach, who has been in charge of the three-time African champions is Nigeria’s longest-serving manager. It thanked the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports for their collaboration and guidance all through.
The federation added that the Executive Committee has decided that Eguavoen would work with Salisu Yusuf, Paul Aigbogun, Joseph Yobo, Terry Eguaoje and Aloysius Agu. Also, former Nigeria captains Austin Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Garba Lawal were also appointed to provide technical and ambassadorial support for the crew. Eguavoen, a former Eagles captain, was coach of the squad when they finished in third place at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in 2006.
