Manchester United have appointed Michael Carrick as acting manager following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sack on Sunday
Solskjaer was fired after a 4-1 defeat to Watford.
Carrick will lead the team against Villarreal, and possibly Chelsea next weekend.
He was appointed as coach under Jose Mourinho and was kept on by Solskjaer.
Carrick is unproven as a manager however the game against Villarreal will be his first in the dugout in sole charge.
Meanwhile, United are working behind the scenes on a potential replacement for Solskjaer, although there is no timeframe on when this might be.
