Lagos Fashion Week has been named a finalist in the Build a Waste-Free World category of the prestigious 2025 Earthshot Prize, earning global recognition for its innovative approach to sustainability and responsible fashion.
The nomination highlights Lagos Fashion Week’s decade-long commitment to promoting eco-conscious practices across Africa’s fashion industry. Through its “Green Access” initiative, the platform has encouraged designers to embrace sustainable materials, ethical production processes, and transparent supply chains values that align with the Earthshot Prize’s mission to reward impactful environmental solutions.
Speaking on the recognition, Omoyemi Akerele, founder of Lagos Fashion Week, expressed gratitude and optimism about the growing global attention on African creativity. She said, “This nomination validates the work we’ve done to position African fashion as both innovative and environmentally responsible, It’s proof that sustainability and creativity can thrive together in Africa.”
The Earthshot Prize, launched by Prince William in 2020, honors individuals and organizations developing groundbreaking solutions to the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. Lagos Fashion Week joins other global finalists working toward a cleaner, more circular future across sectors like agriculture, energy, and waste management.
