Nigeria’s film industry is gearing up for another milestone as the highly anticipated historical epic, Osamede, is scheduled to hit cinemas nationwide on October 17, 2025.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker, James Omokwe and starring Ivie Okujaye in the lead role along side Lexan Aisosa Peters, William Benson, Tosin Adeyemi, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, Etinosa Idemudia, Paul Obazele, and Alexander Bud. Osamede tells a sweeping story rooted in Benin history, weaving themes of tradition, power, and cultural identity. The film has already generated strong buzz within Nollywood circles for its ambitious scale, elaborate costumes, and attention to historical detail.
According to producers, the movie seeks to highlight “a forgotten chapter of Nigeria’s cultural legacy,” combining cinematic spectacle with storytelling that resonates with contemporary audiences. Industry watchers believe Osamede could set new benchmarks for Nigerian cinema in terms of production quality and international appeal.
With Nollywood’s growing recognition on global platforms, the film’s nationwide release is expected to draw large audiences eager for stories that reflect the depth of Nigeria’s history and cultural pride.
Cinemas across Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, Port Harcourt, and other major cities have already begun advance promotions. Early screenings suggest the film could become one of the most talked-about Nigerian releases of 2025.
