According to a report from Search Engine Land, Google is retiring the continuous scrolling feature for search results. Originally introduced for mobile devices in October 2021 and extended to desktop in late 2022, this feature mimicked the infinite scroll seen in social media feeds.

A Google spokesperson informed Search Engine Land that continuous scroll will be removed from desktop search results today and will be phased out from mobile results in the coming months.

In place of continuous scrolling, desktop users will revert to Google’s traditional pagination bar, which allows navigation to specific pages or clicking “Next” to proceed. On mobile, a “More results” button will appear at the bottom of the page to load additional search results.

Google stated to Search Engine Land that this change aims to enhance the speed of delivering search results, focusing on displaying only the results users actively request.
