The Federal Government has appealed to the National Union of Petroleum
and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, to suspend its planned strike over a
labour dispute with the Dangote Group.
Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, who made the
appeal on Sunday, appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress not to
embark on a solidarity strike with the union.
According to Dingyadi, all the parties involved have been invited for a
meeting on Monday, September 8, 2025.
He argued that since his Ministry has intervened, the unions should shelve
the plan to shut down the petroleum industry.
While noting that the petroleum sector constitutes the country’s core
economy, the Minister said the strike will have an adverse effect on the
country.
The Minister revealed that the strike will not only lead to heavy revenue
losses for the country, but also cause untold hardship for Nigerians.
He assured Nigerians that the dispute will be resolved to ensure that no
disruption occurs in the petroleum sector, which is vital to the Nigerian
economy.
