Enugu state has officially been chosen to host the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) for the first time since 2008. This was announced on the 11th of September, 2025 by the Director General of the National Council for Art and Culture, Mr Obi Asika during the Cultural and Creative Economy Summit held at the Landmark Nike Lake Resort Hotel in Enugu.
At the event, Mr Asika handed over the symbolic NAFEST Gong to the Enugu State Government and announced that the event is set to hold from tge 22nd-29th of November, 2025. He described Enugu as the ideal destination due to its rich cultural heritage, tourist attractions and history, and a hub for arts and culture.
Gov.Peter Mbah who was represented by the Enugu State’s Minister for Culture and Tourism,Dame Ugochi Madueke expressed the State’s excitement and stong commitment to hold the prestigious cultural event. She also assured both Nigerians and the International Community that Enugu State was very prepared to hold the most memorable edition of the cultural event.
NAFEST is Nigeria’s annual cultural festival organized by the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC). It showcases the country’s rich diversity through traditional music, dance, drama, crafts, cuisines, and other cultural displays. The festival rotates among states each year, promoting unity, tourism, and economic growth for the host community.
This also marks the first time in 17 years that the festival will return to the South-East, raising expectations for a vibrant and memorable edition in the Coal City.
