The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA, says it is witch-hunting any community or individual with the planned demolition of illegal structures at Enugu Life Style And Golf City Estate, popularly known as Centenary city. According to the agency, it is only enforcing the directives of the state government, which is contained in a judgement delivered at the Enugu State High Court on February 9, 2023.

ECTDA Public Relations Officer, Gideon Eze, stated this on Tuesday while reacting to the protest by members of Obeagu and Amaechi communities, asking the government to stop the demolition exercise. Eze noted that the affected structures were constructed by their owners without obtaining necessary approvals form ECTDA, adding that the structures are not in the original master plan of the Centenary City.

While noting that the agency is not aware of any court judgement stopping the demolition, he disclosed that the owner of the Centenary City, Private Estates International West Africa Limited, is in support of the exercise. Gideon Eze then advised developers in the state to always get approval from the agency for every structure they want to develop, to avoid being demolished, stressing ECTDA cannot demolish approved structure.
