On Sunday, suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked Mafa village in northeastern Nigeria, resulting in dozens of deaths. The attackers, estimated to be around 150 and armed with rifles and RPGs, set fire to shops and homes.

The assault, which involved over 50 motorcycles, is believed to be a retaliation for the killing of two Boko Haram fighters by local vigilantes. The situation in Yobe State, where Mafa is located, remains dire as officials continue to confirm the exact number of casualties. Initial reports indicate at least 81 deaths, with additional bodies discovered and evacuated by the military.

Yobe State is part of the region severely impacted by a 15-year insurgency led by Boko Haram and other militant groups, which has caused significant loss of life and displacement. The attack highlights the ongoing violence in the region, exacerbated by the collaboration between militant groups and local bandits.
