No fewer than Thirty-one migrants out of thirty-four headed for the UK have
drowned in the Channel near Calais after their boat sank, French authorities
say. French and British authorities are conducting a rescue operation in the
Channel by air and sea
France’s interior minister Jean Castex while confirming the incident said five
women and two children were among the dead while two people have been
rescued. Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson described the incident as
shocking, appalling and a sad news
The International Organization for Migration has said it is the biggest single loss
of life in the Channel since it began collecting data in 2014
However, four people suspected to be linked to the people smuggling have
been arrested by French police.
