Alexander Zverev will not take part in this year’s US Open. The German athlete suffered a painful ankle injury against Rafael Nadal at the French Open and then had to undergo surgery at the beginning of June. He has continued to document his recovery on social media, illustrating some of his early steps in July and then being back on a practice court hitting balls at the beginning of this month.
However, the US Open tournament organisers’ announced on Monday that he will not be part of the main draw this year. Zverev had played 27 consecutive Grand Slam main draws since his 2015 debut prior to this injury, which also forced him out of Wimbledon. Also, Reilly Opelka has also withdrawn from the main draw with his place being taken by Jack Sock.
