The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said that the Abuja-Kaduna train service generates at least three hundred million naira for the country every month. Speaking with newsmen on Sunday, Amaechi said his ministry is beginning to contribute to the nation’s economic growth. He revealed that the Lagos–Ibadan rail services is being sustained with the money made from the Abuja–Kaduna rail services.
The Minister, who was a former governor of Rivers State, further disclosed that the government is planning to put about sixteen trains on the Lagos–Ibadan rail line, in order to increase revenue generation from that axis. When questioned about the cost implications for developments experienced on the rail system, he said the country is capable of meeting 2.5 billion dollar loans for the construction of a railway linking Lagos to Ibadan.
