A US jury on Wednesday found that actress Amber Heard had made defamatory claims of abuse against her ex-husband Johnny Depp, and awarded him fifteen million dollars in damages. The seven-member jury in Virginia found that a 2018 article penned by Heard on the sexual violence she had suffered was defamatory to Depp, and was written with malicious intent making her guilty of libel. But jurors also found that Depp defamed Heard through his attorney and awarded her two million dollars.
In a statement, Heard says she is heartbroken adding that the disappointment she feels is beyond words. Depp in his own statement said the jury gave him back his life. Meanwhile, Depp, 58, had sued his ex-wife for fifty million dollars for an article she wrote in which she claimed to be a victim of domestic abuse Heard, 36, on the other hand counter-sued for one hundred and million dollars, saying he smeared her by calling her a liar.
