President Bola Tinubu is reportedly preparing to reshuffle his cabinet in light of the upcoming Nigeria Independence Day celebrations on October 1. Sources within the presidency have indicated that this decision stems from mounting criticisms concerning the administration’s management of the economy.

Key ministries expected to be affected by this reshuffle include the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Ministry of Power, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Environment, and Ministry of Defense. Discontent has been growing within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with party members voicing concerns that the current economic strategies may jeopardize their chances in the 2027 elections.

An APC chieftain, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, expressed dissatisfaction with the president’s economic policies and highlighted the urgent need for improvements to restore public trust. The chieftain pointed out the delay in replacing Simon Lalong, the former Minister of Labour and Employment, following his resignation to assume a Senate seat. Additionally, the vacancy in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has raised eyebrows, as critics argue there should be competent replacements within the party.

Reports suggest that the president has been closely monitoring ministerial performance and intends to make necessary adjustments before the October 1 broadcast. An official announcement regarding the reshuffle is expected soon
