Apple has agreed to a $35 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit concerning audio issues experienced by some iPhone 7 and 7 Plus owners. The lawsuit, filed in 2019 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleged problems related to the “audio IC” chip in these devices. While Apple denies any wrongdoing or the existence of audio issues, it has opted for a settlement to resolve the matter.

Under the terms of the settlement, eligible customers in the United States who owned an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus between September 16, 2016, and January 3, 2023, and experienced covered audio issues or paid for repairs or replacements related to those issues, may qualify for compensation.

Customers who submitted claims and paid for repairs out of pocket could receive payments ranging from at least $50 up to $349. Those who reported audio issues to Apple but did not pay for repairs could receive payments of up to $125.

To participate in the settlement, eligible customers must submit a claim by June 3, 2024. Claims can be submitted online or by mail, with options to choose between receiving payments via electronic check or physical check.

A final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for July 18, 2024. If approved, payments will be distributed to qualifying customers after the hearing.

For more information or to file a claim, customers can visit the settlement administrator’s website or download a claim form. It’s important for eligible individuals to act promptly to ensure they meet the submission deadline and potentially receive compensation for their iPhone 7 or 7 Plus audio issues.
